More and more Italians are connecting to the Internet every day.According to the Global Digital Report 2021 published by We Are Social, in 2020 alone, the number of Italians who accessed the Internet for the first time was about one million. This growth of 2 percent brought the number of connected Italian users to 50 million.

More and more users every day are accessing web services for the first time, but most importantly, more and more people are using web services in their daily lives.Data consumption is mainly due to ease of access: 97% of users access internet services via smartphones while 3 out of 4 people use desktops and laptops. The web is increasingly becoming an indispensable commodity. The Global Digital 2021 report highlights how much the length of time spent on the web has also increased: on average, a user uses 6 hours a day on the internet, of which two hours are on social networks.The latter, in 2020 alone, recorded a 6 percent increase in subscriptions.This is because connecting to the internet gives the opportunity to enjoy different content: think music, games, social, apps in general, and messaging apps.

From this data what do we notice?

  • That more and more people are connected and for more time;
  • That eCommerce is growing more and more;
  • That The vast majority of users access the internet via smartphones;

Another data point (this time encouraging) is the increase in sales recorded by eCommerce: in Italy we spent 24% more than in 2019 regarding the macro-world of consumer goods. More than 33 million Italians purchased products on the web for an annual spending amount of about $625.
